My membership of professional bodies has been invaluable throughout my career, not least in offering my clients the reassurance that I am bound by their codes of professional conduct.

CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTS (CIOL)

I joined CIOL as an associate in 2001, became a full member (MCIL) in 2004 and was elected a Fellow (FCIL) in 2011.

I was actively involved in CIOL's work in a number of roles from 2002 onwards, including as chair of the Translating Division, chair of the Editorial Board of the Institute's journal, The Linguist, and chair of the Chartered Linguist Registration Board. I served as a member of Council from 2012 to 2019 and as Chair from April 2016 to July 2018.

You can find out more about my obligations under CIOL’s Code of Professional Conduct here.

CHARTERED LINGUIST (TRANSLATOR)

I have been listed as a Chartered Linguist in the translation section of the CL register since 2008 and was closely involved in the relaunch of the CL scheme in late 2014. As a Chartered Linguist I am obliged to be in regular professional practice, undertake relevant Continuing Professional Development and submit an annual statement about my activities to maintain my registration. More information about the requirements for CL registration can be found on the CIOL website.

INSTITUTE OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (ITI)

I have been a qualified member (MITI) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) since 2007 (associate member 2002-2007).
