Spelling and punctuation errors, inconsistent terminology, layout issues and poor referencing distract your reader and create a bad impression of your organisation. Any published text – whether for internal customers or external stakeholders – will be improved by rigorous editing, proofreading and layout checks.

Editing

Even the best translation can benefit from a second pair of eyes. A thorough revision process includes checking for:

  • accuracy of meaning (comparing the original and translated texts)
  • spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • correct transfer of dates, numbers, etc.
  • acronyms, names and citations
  • consistency of terminology
  • compliance with target-language conventions.

I use industry-standard style guides and am happy to work to in-house guidelines provided by my clients. I can also support your organisation in producing its own style guide to ensure consistency and the right tone of voice in your future communications.

Proofreading

As well as revising translations, I provide proofreading services for monolingual English texts in my areas of expertise. Among other things, proofreading involves checks on:

  • tables of contents, figures and tables
  • non-editable images
  • figure, table and box numbers
  • chapter, section, figure and table titles
  • consistency of capitalisation and hyphenation
  • punctuation of bulleted and numbered lists
  • footnotes and references.

Terminology management

Consistent terminology is essential for accuracy and shared understanding across your organisation. I can help you to create or update an in-house glossary to support anyone who produces copy for you.

Layout checking

However carefully a document has been edited and proofread, errors often creep in at the design stage. I have extensive experience in re-checking your document once it has been laid out to pick up any mistakes that could mar the final output before it is signed off.
